What is Bio-hacking and the Bio-hacking Diet?

Bio-hacking is the process of making changes to your lifestyle that figuratively “hack” your body's biology to achieve an optimum level of health and control. By making changes to your lifestyle and in some cases embracing technology, you can actually transform your body so that you feel more energized, be more productive and become the best possible version of yourself.

Fresh, organic food is required for peak health.

The science-fiction version of bio-hacking we see in mass media is still in its infancy, but as genetics and technology make greater progress. There will soon be a point were the mainstream may embrace certain upgrades to their biology through either biological restructuring or by adding a cybernetic element to their life. There is a small community who wish to be the pioneers of this advancement, but they operate in a slim grouping of that community.

Is bio-hacking safe

Some forms of bio-hacking are incredibly safe as long as expert advice is sought out from the onset. For example, taking certain supplements, vitamins and hormones can prove extremely beneficial especially if medical professionals have indicated a shortfall in your body. The use of testosterone by men in middle age has seen many halt the biological clock and has ensured that their physique shows no signs of the usual loss of muscle tone. Making changes to your diet is a form of bio-hacking as it is an effort to safely control your body. Diets such as Paleo, Keto, Vegan and Vegetarianism are also a bio-hacking tool

Those on a vegetarian diet require additional supplements.

What is a bio-hacking diet?

Typically, the core aim of a 'Bio-hack Diet' is to make sure at least three-quarters of your diet is based on natural, unprocessed foods. Organic food and that untainted by the industrial process of mass-produced farming offers you the best level of fuel for your body. The evidence is now clear that the greatest protective effect on health is diets that reduce or eliminate most processed and refined foods and focus instead on whole foods rich in essential nutrients. These foods help to maintain your health and reduce the carcinogens and rouge elements in your body.

An important aspect of the diet is to eat at least six servings of vegetables and berries per dayVegetables and berries, in particular, are powerhouse sources of prebiotic (gut-supporting) fibres, and vitamins, minerals, and antioxidant chemicals that not only support health but are cofactors for optimal physical and mental performance. Those who enjoy juicing or creating smoothies will appreciate a diet along the bio-hack pathway.

Even those with no interest in controlling calories or sticking strictly to plans will acknowledge that bio-hacking focusses on an organic diet of real food and that can only benefit one's health.
Those who follow bio-hacking dietary principles value proper hydration of the body. Dehydration can affect mental and physical performance faster than any other factor.  It is advised that you should have two large glasses of water, as soon as you wake up. People are unaware of how big a problem night-time dehydration can be and for those who wish to be functioning at full capacity, re-hydrating in the morning is essential.

A Brief Look at the Keto Diet.

The main aim of the ketogenic diet is to put your body into a state known as ketosis. Ketosis is a normal process that happens when your body doesn't have enough carbohydrates to burn for energy. Instead, your body instructs the liver to use fat reserves to make a substance called ketones, these acidic chemicals can be used by your body as a fresh fuel source and it replaces the glucose that your body usually uses.  As human bodies and their metabolism are not uniform, it can take between 2-5 days of lower carbohydrate consumption to 'switch on' ketosis. The Keto Diet reduces your weight quite quickly. Most people are not able to stay long term in ketosis because of a limited dietary choice, a dwindling amount of usable fat and often not there are annoying side effects that accompany ketosis.
